Scarborough Primary School
At Scarborough Primary School we strive to achieve the highest standard of learning possible to develop students’ knowledge, skills and confidence to achieve their individual potential. We provide a supportive and safe learning environment where students develop into positive citizens. With a focus on academic success for all and through a variety of pastoral care programs we foster resilience, confidence, persistence and respect, where students develop a positive and enthusiastic attitude towards learning. In promoting these attributes, we rely on a motivated team of professionals who work in a positive and collegiate manner. We work together to support and care for all members of the school community.
To promote effective learning, we value the collection of informative data so that we can plan, implement and report on a learning program that is specific and targeted to meet the needs of the school population. We encourage and support students to achieve their learning potential and to become independent lifelong learners by providing whole school approaches that focus on:
- contemporary teaching and learning strategies;
- explicit instruction;
- inquiry learning – learning how to learn;
- cooperative learning;
- integrated programs based on the Australian Curriculum;
- differentiation in the curriculum to cater for individual needs;
- teaching transferable skills – real life learning, and
- integrated use of technology.
As an independent public school we value and encourage parent and community involvement. Strategic decisions about school direction are made through open and transparent processes. We place a strong emphasis on the value of contemporary communication and feedback. Working as partners with parents and the community, we have a strong curriculum focus on developing literacy and numeracy skills and developing the student as a whole. All members of the community feel that their contributions are valued through the many opportunities that are created to recognise improvement and achievement. Parents are encouraged to be involved and support the school in its endeavours.
Our staff are committed to be lifelong learners and regularly engage in professional development to ensure that the curriculum delivery reflects the needs of the learners. Innovation and reform is led by staff. We work collaboratively to share and develop teacher expertise, and have developed effective partnerships with local schools and support agencies to secure the best possible outcomes for our students.
Students are encouraged to be proactive in the learning process by setting goals and reflecting upon their learning. This applies to all aspects of their academic, social and emotional development. At Scarborough Primary School we care about students and educate them to become valuable contributors in society.
