Student Services

At Scarborough Primary School, we believe it is essential to support students across all areas of their schooling. We have a dedicated student services team who is committed to supporting the social, emotional, and academic needs of all children and their families.

Our Student Services Team consists of:

  • Deputy Principal: Tina Van Maanen
  • School Psychologist: Sophie Bult
  • School Chaplain: Nikki Harvey
  • Learning Support Coordinator: Debbie Potter
  • Community Health Nurse: Bronte Nowlands

Through a coordinated approach, the team provides a high level of support across the school. This may include working with class teachers, identifying students at risk, providing targeted teaching and learning strategies, and utilising referral pathways to link families with community agencies and supports.

If you have any concerns about your child, please get in touch with the class teacher as your first point of contact. We look forward to working with you to support your child at school.

School Psychologist

The School Psychologist provides a specialist consultation, assessment and intervention service for staff, students and families in our community.

Our School Psychologist is at Scarborough on Tuesday mornings, and provides support in three main areas:

  • Behaviour
  • Learning
  • Mental Health and Wellbeing

Referrals are made to the School Psychologist through the Deputy Principal.

School Chaplain

The School Chaplain is an integral part of our student services team, caring for the social, emotional, and mental wellbeing of students, staff and families.

Our Chaplain is at Scarborough on Wednesdays and Fridays. Targeted support is provided in a variety of ways to meet individual needs:

  • one on one meetings
  • small group activities
  • lunchtime Lego and Gardening Clubs
  • weekly food hampers for families, in partnership with Oz Harvest

Referrals are made to the School Chaplain through the Deputy Principal.

Learning Support Coordinator

The Learning Support Coordinator is an experienced educator with excellent knowledge of best practice teaching and learning strategies for students. Working closely with the Principal and Deputy Principal, they implement a whole school model of support. Using an evidence-based approach, the LSC collaborates with staff to analyse student data and create targeted intervention processes.

Our LSC provides staff mentoring, in class support, and small group literacy and maths intervention, on Thursdays and Fridays.

Community Health Nurse

The Community Health Nurse is employed by the Child and Adolescent Health Service, to promote healthy development and wellbeing so all students may reach their full potential.

Serving as a health contact point for children and their families, they provide information, assessment, health counselling and referrals for specialist support such as speech or occupational therapy. The services provided are free and confidential.

Our Community Health Nurse visits the school regularly, with a key focus on early intervention and the School Entry Health Assessment program for students in Kindy and Pre-primary.
